"Gospel Reverberations"

Acts 10:23b-48

Rev. Charlie Phillips

How often do we forget the mighty power of our God? In a world divided and filled with pain - a world that sometimes brings us to our knees -can we honestly admit that doubt creeps in? That we begin to wonder whether God is still moving …whether His gospel is still advancing …whether His grace still reverberates outward?

As you prepare for worship this Sunday, ask the Lord to open your eyes - to see His power, to behold His glory, and to trust in the everlasting reverberation of His grace.

"Breaking Dawn"

Acts 8:1b-8

Rev. Charlie Phillips

As we approach Advent, I want to share a quote from C.S. Lewis to prepare our hearts and minds. Lewis once wrote, “Enemy-occupied territory—that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful King has landed… and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.”

Leave it to Lewis to cast Advent in a different light—not only as the story of our rightful King landing, but as the beginning of a mission in which that King calls us to participate.

So I want to challenge you, as we enter this season of Advent, to put a pause on all your planning and the flurry of activity in your heart and mind. As you pause, turn your attention to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to bring Christ to bear on your soul in such a way that He slows you down to contemplate the glory of the Incarnation - the King who has come. And ask Him as well to make you freshly aware not only of His momentous love for you, but also of the mission He invites you to join.

See you soon…

"Pride Comes Before the..."

Obadiah 1-14

Rev. Charlie Phillips

There’s no book in the Old Testament that feels less significant than Obadiah. Obadiah is a minor prophet. Not only that, but it’s the shortest of the minor prophets. Furthermore, we know next to nothing about the prophet Obadiah. And lastly, the average person probably can’t even tell you what the book is about. It simply seems totally insignificant! But God, in His infinite wisdom, has given us this minor prophet for a reason. Join us Sunday as we dive in!

Not only do we encounter a prophet reoriented to his calling in life…not only do we see the Gospel once again going forward…but we also see redemption taking effect in the last place anyone would ever expect—in the belly of a whale! See you Sunday!

Rev. Charlie Phillips

Join us this Sunday as we begin a five part series on the book of Jonah! As you’ll see, there’s a reason Jonah is the favorite of many children and adults! "Can't Beat the Real Thing"

1 Samuel 28:3-25

Rev. Charlie Phillips

As we wind up our study of 1 Samuel we see that Saul is winding down—the clock is literally ticking down until his demise. In typical fashion Saul seeks the benefits of God rather than God himself and what results is one of the strangest passages in the entire Bible! Bring a friend and worship with us this Sunday as we study an unholy séance!

"Soul Propaganda"

1 Samuel 27:1-28:2

Rev. Charlie Phillips

The first verse of 1 Samuel 27 is shocking - “Then David said in his heart, ‘Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines.’” Given that David just had victory over his sin and had once again cornered Saul and let him live, this pronouncement of defeat comes out of left field! What would cause the upcoming king—whose future has repeatedly been laid out to him—to falter in such a way? Join us for worship Sunday morning and find out!

"Deja Vu All Over Again"

1 Samuel 26:1-25

Rev. Charlie Phillips

Chapter 26 recounts David and Saul’s last interaction together. Their relationship has been a rocky road at best—filled with numerous attempts at murder and close call after close call. This intense interaction shows us just what kind of men they came to be during their struggle. Join us this Sunday as we see how their relationship concludes.

"The Lord Be With You"

1 Samuel 17:1-37

Rev. Charlie Phillips

This Sunday we come to perhaps the most well-known and beloved story in the entire Bible. Given that we know it so well, it’s easy to assume that we’ve wrung all the truth and joy from it. However, there’s always so much more than meets the eye. Join us for worship as we seek the glory of Christ in the story of David and Goliath.

"Obedience > Sacrifice"

1 Samuel 14:47-15:1-35

Rev Charlie Phillips

One of my favorite times of the year is the very beginning. There’s all this energy swirling around our goals and vision for life. Everyone stops for a moment and considers how their present steps are affecting their future lives and aspirations. I love it! I would in fact argue that we’re called to do such reassessments throughout our lives, and not just because of our cultural drift (which we talked about this past Sunday), but because we’re called to be stewards of the gifts, talents, and resources God has given us. Join us this Sunday as we talk about living on vision as a church community.
